Dance A Story

Dance A Story brings fine literature from around the world to life, stimulating learning in the arts and in core academic areas. Dance A Story provides both a quality performance experience and expert arts integration workshops. Drs. Elaine Gelbard and Rebecca Jernigan bring excellence in performance coupled with years of experience teaching students and teachers, and specialize in adapting to the needs of individual schools and organizations. Dr. Gelbard is former coordinator of the University of Mississippi dance program and former director of Body and Soul Dance Company. Her work encompasses preschool to elder programs. She offers classes in dance for nontraditional dancers in Oxford and performs with the Leda Swan Dance Company, Oxford Film Festival, and the Oxford Civic Chorus. Dr. Jernigan spearheads the Double Decker Storyfest and the Blueberry Jubilee Storytelling Festival. She has served as Chair of Theatre Oxford and Director of the North Mississippi Storytellers Guild. She has been honored by the Mississippi Humanities Council for her work with the bilingual project “Luciernagas.” In 2013, she received the Best Actress award at the Oxford Film Festival.
