Mónica Gómez

L: El, Paso, TX | P: 915-584-9298 | E: | W:

Writer and teaching artist Mónica Gómez presents writing workshops exploring creativity, often incorporating visual art, music and other art forms. Her creative writing workbook, “Expressercize: Write Answers” addresses a broad scope of human issues with a focus on developing higher-level thinking skills and stimulating conscious decision-making through written self-expression. Exercises like “Who Do We Call Artists?,” “Word Jewelry,” “Samurai Thinking,” “Chi and Emotion,” “Self-Soothing Options,” “How Much Money is Enough?” and many more, generate fresh and exciting insights. Gómez has taught extensively in juvenile corrections, specializing in creating lessons that penetrate resistance to overcoming perceived barriers. With the general population, she translates this skill into helping participants transcend routine obstacles to personal and professional fulfillment. Decades of experience as a broadcast professional (a longtime NPR radio host and former TV news reporter), a performing and recording artist (with three solo CDs in circulation), a martial arts practitioner (teaches t’ai chi Yang long form), and a published author and poet (currently compiling her first book of poetry for 2017 publication) – all inform Gómez’ work with diverse populations. A healthy dose of humor distinguishes her teaching style, which models her belief that effective communication is an art form.

Lessons & Workshops: Yes We Kandinsky! (grades 6-12); Expressercize (grades 6-12); and more.
