Nominations being sought for 2016 Governor's Arts Awards

 

Jackson, Miss – The Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) is seeking nominations for the 2016 Governor’s Arts Awards.  The awards, presented annually by MAC, recognize organizations and individuals whose work on behalf of the arts has significantly contributed to the growth and development of the rich cultural heritage of Mississippi.  The general public is encouraged to nominate an artist or arts organization deserving of this honor.    A complete list of previous winners is available on the agency’s website at www.arts.ms.gov.

 

A panel of judges representing all aspects of the arts will select the recipients from the submitted nominations.  The winners will be announced later this year and the awards will be presented at the annual public ceremony to be held in February 2016.  

 

To obtain a nomination form, visit the Governor's Arts Awards section of the agency's website (http://www.arts.ms.gov/special-projects/governors-awards.php.)  To receive a hard copy of the nomination form, call 601/359-6030.  The nomination form and supplementary materials must be postmarked or hand-delivered by 5:00pm on Friday, June 26, 2015.  Hand deliveries can be made by that date to Mississippi Arts Commission, 501 North West Street, Suite 1101A Woolfolk Building, Jackson, MS  39201.   For assistance, contact Susan Liles at sliles@arts.ms.gov

 

The Mississippi Arts Commission is a state agency, funded by the Mississippi Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mississippi Endowment for the Arts at the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson and other private sources.  MAC is the official grants-making and service agency for the arts in Mississippi.  The agency serves as an active supporter and promoter of arts in community life and in arts education.
