Oak Grove High School Theatre Champions Visit

the State Capitol

 

Jackson, Miss – Students from Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg recently visited the Mississippi State Capitol at the invitation of Senator John A. Polk.  Senator Polk wanted to honor the students for being chosen as the theatre state champions for 2015.  This was the school’s 8th state championship win.

 

The students were treated to lunch and a tour of the State Capitol.  Dr. Tom Pearson, Executive Director of the Mississippi Arts Commission talked with the students about the importance of the arts and congratulated them for their success.

 

The Mississippi Arts Commission is a state agency, funded by the Mississippi Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mississippi Endowment for the Arts at the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson and other private sources. MAC is the official grants-making and service agency for the arts in Mississippi. The agency serves as an active supporter and promoter of arts in community life and in arts education.
