Becky Beard

Hernando, Mississippi

While she claims to not be “artsy in any way,” Becky Beard is nonetheless one of the arts community’s most ardent supporters. A native of Sardis, Mississippi, Becky resides in Hernando, the DeSoto county seat, where she is a partner in the public accounting firm of Williams, Pitts and Beard.

Nominated by former state senator Doug Davis, Becky has considerable career experience in providing auditing, tax, policy and other accounting services to a variety of nonprofit agencies, including those associated with the performing and visual arts. Becky is greatly looking forward to representing her “new clients” in the state’s northwest corner, from DeSoto County’s larger municipalities to the less-populated but equally arts-centered communities such as Como, Sardis and Senatobia in neighboring Tate and Panola counties.

“Art and artists are in every town in the state, so it’s important that every area be represented, including ‘Mississippi’s Front Porch,’” says Becky, referring to the popular moniker for the counties that greet travelers on I-55 heading south out of Memphis and across the Mississippi/Tennessee state line. “We may be a fair ways from Jackson, but we’ve got a lot going on and certainly want people throughout the state to know.”

An enthusiastic oenophile and yoga practitioner, Becky is also passionate about gathering with family and friends, cooking, collecting culinary antiques, running and traveling, both to destinations within driving distance, such as New Orleans, and those that require a passport, such as Paris, just about anywhere in Italy and the Bavarian hills of Germany. In all of her pursuits, Becky keeps her eyes and heart open for the objets, people and experiences that move and inspire her.

“The arts should be shared and considered obtainable by all,” she says. “Everyone has their daily responsibilities, but surrounding yourself with things that please you is good for the soul. Even how we arrange our home environment is artistic expression. All the connections we have to the arts, in in our homes, our schools and our neighborhoods, are important.”

Becky is a graduate of North Delta Academy in Pleasant Grove; in 1988 she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and Tri Delta sorority.
