The Core Arts Initiative was a MAC program that supported arts programs within the juvenile justice system from 1999 through 2007. The programs were hosted in detention centers, adolescent offender programs, alternative schools, holding facilities, and community-based after-school and summer programs. Each program used the arts as a tool to decrease incidences of violence; decrease recidivism; increase school attendance; and provide positive experiences with adult mentors.
